Variety News Staff

THE body of a male Japanese tourist was pulled from Ritidian Beach at 2:19 p.m. yesterday, the second life claimed by Guam waters this year.
Guam Fire Department spokesperson Phyllis Blas said Rescue # 2 recovered the man’s body and found he had no pulse and was not breathing.
He was transported by boat to a marina and taken to Guam Memorial Hospital.
As of press time, GMH nursing supervisor Josie Zamora confirmed with Variety that the man had expired.
However, Zamora was not able to release the man’s name or age pending identification.
The Emergency 911 call was made at 12:50 p.m. Medic units 1, 2, and 3, as well as Scout 12 and Medic 12 of Astumbo responded, according to Blas.
GFD responded on a call of a possible missing person swept over the reef at Ritidan.
Guam Police Department public affairs officer Allan Guzman said at 1:30 p.m. yesterday, Dededo Precinct officers responded to Ritidian Point on a reported drowning.
“The Fire Rescue and Police Harbor Patrol responded and discovered a male, possibly Japanese, drowned off the beach at Ritidian Point. The Japanese man was seen snorkeling with a friend and failed to return to shore. Police were then contacted,” Guzman said.
No further details were available as of press time.
