Airai, PCC beat foes to keep record clean

By Nazario Rodriguez Jr.
Horizon news staff

League-leading Airai is right on track for its title quest in the ongoing 2007 season of Palau Major League while PCC Mesekiu continued to affirm its lofty billing.
Both teams proved their dominance over their respective rivals the past few days midway in the first round even as bad weather continued to affect the progress of the tournament at the rain-drenched Asahi Field.
The Airai Aces, the 2004 champions, scored another lopsided win over expansion team Ngerbeches, 18-5, in the second game of two featured match-ups on Saturday Jan. 27.
The win was the Aces’ fifth consecutive in as many games counting their victories earlier over Ngerbeched, 9-2, Ngardmau, 5-2, Ngaraard, 20-3, and Kayangel, 5-4.
The two teams remain standings on the Aces’ aim of sweeping the first round are Koror and PCC Mesekiu.
But PCC is not to be taken lightly because it is composed of the main bulk of players that gave Koror the title the past two years.
PCC is also right on track for its own title bid by winning all its first three assignments including a 27-7 victory over Ngerbeches last Thursday Jan. 25.
PCC’s other victories were against Ngardmau, 9-3, and Koror, 24-3.
Ngardmau posted its first win in three outings on Friday over Ngaraard, 16-2.
The other result on Saturday showed Kayangel beating Koror, 21-2.
The current team standings are Airai (5-0), PCC Mesekiu (3-0), Ngerbeched (2-1), Kayangel (2-2), Koror (1-2), Ngardmau (1-2), Ngaraard (0-3) and Ngerbeches (0-4).
Last night’s game between PCC and Ngerbeched has been cancelled because the Asahi Field was wet and unplayable.
A total of eight games have been rained out since the PML season started three weeks ago.
Today’s game is between Ngardmau and Ngerbeches.
