Former Tonga police minister charged with sedition

NUKUALOFA (Pacnews) — Police in Tonga have charged former police minister and Tongatapu number three people’s representative to the Legislative Assembly, Clive Edwards, with two counts of sedition.
Edwards was also refused bail at the Nuku’alofa Magistrate Court on Friday.
Edwards told the court that there was no use in keeping him in police custody because under the Constitution he has the right not to answer any question.
But the prosecution told the hearing that evidence showed the accused could interfere with witnesses.
Magistrate Salesi Mafi acknowledged that Edwards has the right not to answer any question but was concerned with the evidence that the accused could interfere with the witness.
Mafi then ordered that Edwards be remanded to police custody.
