TWENTY-SIX homesteaders may
have their lots taken from them because of their failure to comply with
the terms of their agreements, according to Department of Public Lands
homestead division director Jerome K. Aldan.
Aldan, in interview yesterday, said they have repeatedly warned the applicants
and recipients of homestead lands in the past few months, but when DPL
conducted its monthly inspection recently, the department found neglected
lots.
Aldan said only one of the 41 lots they visited in Kagman on Jan. 29 passed
the inspection.
The recipient of this lot has already built a house on the land and resides
in it, he added.
According to Aldan, the recipients of the 26 homestead lots that appear
to have been neglected have been issued notices of intention to revoke.
Aldan said these homesteaders are to be given six months to fully comply
before his office finally recommends revocation.
He said two of the Kagman homestead lots they inspected do have houses
built, but nobody was residing in them.
The other 10 lots they saw need further improvements, Aldan said.
He said DPL is trying to be strict in implementing policies on homestead
lands because they want to make sure the recipients are really occupying
and taking care of their lots.
