ConCon proposed amendment prevails over Ngamis in Ngatpang referendum

By Nazario Rodriguez Jr.
Horizon news staff

The amendment proposed by the Constitutional Convention prevailed over the amendment proposed by the Ngaimis or traditional chiefs of Ngatpang after last Wednesday’s referendum.
Law to draft amendments to the Constitution created the ConCon.
According to the unofficial result released yesterday by the Election Commission, Amendment II got 57 votes at Central Box in Koror and 42 from Proper Box in Ngatpang for a total of 99.
Amendment I earned 39 out of the 96 total votes cast at the Central Box and 29 out of the 71 votes cast at Proper.
This would mean that the Court would set for the election of state officials of Ngatpang as well as the date for their installation.
To be elected are the nine members of the State Legislature and the Governor.
Shallum Etpison has been appointed in an Acting Governor capacity.
