The National
Economy Symposium, hosted by the Compact Review Commission, will commence
in two weeks, Feb. 19 to 23 at the Ngarachamayong Cultural Center.
The Commission seeks to solicit and learn from the comments and statements
voiced by the Palauan citizens and the residents, as well as the international
consultant and experts on the economic development of the Republic.
The Commission needs to learn what the Palauan people needs for the next
15 to 20 years.
The international consultants are expected to provide insights into the
global issues trends that may impact on Palaus future.
The Commission will use the comments and recommendations emanating from
the Symposium as part of its review and recommendations for the renegotiation
of the Compact before 2009.
The Commission urges and invites the general public to attend and participate
in the symposium.
The symposium will focus on four sectors of Palaus sustainable economic
development; economy, environment, health and education (society) and
security.
On Feb. 19, it begins with statements from Palaus leadership followed
by presentations and floor discussion on the four sectors.
On Feb. 20-21, group sessions in the four sectors are conducted: Economy
in the main hall of the center, environment in Room2, Society in Room
3 and Security in Room 4.
On Feb. 22-23, invited international consultants and experts will join
the symposium to speak on the same four sectors of Palaus economic
development in the context of global trends.
All Palau as one is invited and asked to participate and share their views
as to how Palaus future can be brighter as only we can determine
it. The symposium is open to the general public.
