Jayslynn Riungel
and Junior Benjamin completed on Wednesday their 52-week apprentice training
program under the Air Force Civic Action Team.
Vice President and Minister of Justice Elias Camsek Chin who was the guest
speaker at the apprentice graduation ceremony at the Camp Katuu said he
would strongly advertise for Riungel and Benjamin to get employment.
"I am disappointed that I dont have a position for you right
now, but I will strongly advertise for you," Chin said.
Chin said the acquired skills of Riungel and Benjamin are accredited to
the Civic Action Team.
Riungel completed training as administration staff while Benjamin as a
welder.
During the graduation ceremony both graduates were presented with letters
of recommendation and certificates of completion from the team.
Benjamin and Jayslynn said that they are thankful for the opportunity
given to them by the program and were looking forward to getting a job
to apply the skills acquired during the apprenticeship.
The program is made possible through the Palau Community Action Agency
(PCAA) and the Air Force Team.
The team is currently training apprentices in various fields; the team
has two apprentices in the mechanical, four for structure, one apprentice
as a welder, three equipment operators, one plumber, one electrician and
one administrative person.
Each trainee selected for the program is assigned a supervisor from the
resident Air Force team , who will provide training and track progress.
The trainee performance and skill attainment is reviewed and documented
every two weeks.
Trainees earn $10 for every 8-hour workday (Monday to Friday), and are
paid bi-weekly.
The apprentice who complete the 1-year program gain the skill, work ethic,
knowledge, and responsibility that top employers seek.
