$2.2 M for new Weather Service building

The National Weather Service of Palau obtained a grant of $2.2 million to finance the construction of a new building will be situated near the Palau International Airport.
President Remengesau during his weekly press conference last Wednesday said that the Federal National Weather Service will provide a grant to the NWS to move to a better and bigger building which will be constructed near the ARFF building at the airport.
The president said he is congratulating Maria Ngemaes , head of the NWS for working diligently with their federal counterparts.
The president said that the weather services provided by the federal government are under the Compact of Free Association agreement.
Under the provision of the agreement he said the Palau will get the latest weather updates.
He said the weather service is an important area of partnership between Palau and the United States.
He said that the grant given means the federal government wants a continued presence in Palau.
He added that construction will commence this year.
