NEITHER Da Lani Kynez nor
Kich Fairo is willing to wave the white flag yet, as the two teams engaged
in a close game in the second round of the World Organized Rocball Community
League yesterday at the Marianas High School Gym.
Da Lani Kynez was leading by only three, 43-40, when the game was halted
at the start of the fourth set. But with the way Kich Fairo won in the
third set and started the fourth, the match is still too close to call.
Alex Laniyo gave Da Lani Kynez a good start, hitting a goal in the opening
part of the first set en route to his teams 15-8 victory.
Da Lani Kynez won back-to-back sets with a 15-8 triumph in the second
set.
Kich Fairo, which is tied with Da Lani Kynez with a 0-2 record in the
second round and must prevail in its third game to avoid early elimination,
recovered big in the third winning by 10, 19-9.
Kich Fairo picked up where it left off in the fourth quarter leading Da
Lani Kynez, 5-4, when the game was temporarily stopped, as students needed
to return to class.
If Kich Fairo wins the fourth set and holds the lead at the end of the
regulation, it will claim its first win in the second round.
If it wins, but Da Lani Kynez still leads, the game will go into overtime
with Kich Fairo needing to win twice to steal the game. Da Lani Kynez
only need to prevail once to enter the win column.
Dean Matthew was leading Kich Fairo with eight points on three aces and
a xunx. Tom Malone has earned seven markers on a goal, a xunx and an ace,
while Typhoon Saito has collected five points on a goal and an ace.
Alex had scored 15 points for Da Lani Kynez, as he drilled a goal, three
kees, two aces and a goal.
So far, 14 aces, four xunxs, six kees and three goals were scored in the
match.
The six teams that are playing in the second round will only have five
games each. After the round-robin second round, the top four teams will
advance to the semifinals with the No. 1 team meeting the No. 4 squad
and the No. 2 squad facing the No. 3 team.
The semifinals will be a best-of-three games series, while the championship
series will be a best-of-five games affair.
