At last!

WILL wonders never cease! Just when I was convinced that no elected official would ever acknowledge the racial discrimination so blatantly obvious in the so-called “Chamorro only” plebiscite legislation, here comes Sen. Judi Guthertz to complain about what no politician would, up to now, admit existed. She’s steamed because, though she considers herself an advocate and firm supporter of indigenous rights, Guam Public Law 25-106 prohibits her from assuming a seat on the Decolonization Commission. She thinks that’s discriminatory, and of course she’s right.
Fear not, Senator Judi. Rest easy. When the time for the political status vote rolls around, if it ever does, you’ll be able to cast your ballot along with every other resident citizen of Guam. That scurrilous law, along with other examples of racially discriminatory legislation, remains on the books only because it’s never been legally challenged.
When that happens, the ruling will inevitably be a slam-dunk for “inorganic and unconstitutional”. By the way — now that you’ve acknowledged that P.L. 25-106 is discriminatory, what do you plan to do about it? Hopefully, more than our Attorney General, our US Attorney, and other gutless guardians of the public trust and alleged protectors of our civil rights.
