Man gets probation for stealing scuba tanks

A man charged for stealing 10 scuba tanks from another person got a probation sentence.
Shaun Matsutaro, 27, appeared for a change of plea hearing yesterday before Associate Judge David Wiseman.
The defendant, through Assistant Public Defender Adam Hardwicke, entered a plea of guilty to the offense of theft.
Wiseman accepted the plea and sentenced him to one year of imprisonment, all suspended.
Matsutaro was placed on probation for one year and was ordered to report to the Probation Office on Feb. 12 at 4 p.m.
He will pay a fine of $150 and an assessment fee of $25.
He will also perform 80 hours of community service and submit a letter of apology to the victim, Junichi Otake.
According to the prosecution, Matsutaro on Oct. 23, 2006 stole ten scuba tanks worth $1,000 from Otake.
