By Gina Tabonares
Variety News Staff

A MAN was sentenced to three years of imprisonment for each of three counts of alien smuggling for financial gain.
Jin Mu, 45, was also ordered for deportation by the U.S. District Court of Guam.
Mu shall be turned over to immigration authorities after serving the three-year imprisonment with a credit of 333 days served.
He will be placed under supervised release for three years and was also ordered to perform 200 hours of community service.
Mu was indicted together with Yi Xu Chen in 2005. He admitted that he agreed to assist Ling Ping Cai in a scheme to smuggle illegal aliens from Tinian to Guam.
Cai gave Mu and Chen a total of $12,000 to purchase and equip a boat for the trip.
Mu took the boat to Tinian and assembled the aliens whom Cai had recruited to come to Guam. A total of 10 individuals landed on the shore below the Mangilao golf course.
Chen was sentenced on Jan. 2, 2007 and was meted with three years for each count of three which will be served concurrently. The 358 days he served was also credited.
While the court makes recommendation for his incarceration in the West Coast area, Chen—through his lawyerSamuel Teker—filed an appeal before the Ninth Circuit. The notice of appeal was filed on Jan. 19, 2007.
