THE Saipan Windsurfing Association
will be holding the first-ever Saipan Kite Jam 2007 this weekend
at Micro Beach.
According to tournament organizer Rob Jordan, the two-day event will feature
local surfers challenging competitors from Japan and Guam.
The kiteboarding tournament will be held on Saturday and Sunday with races
from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The event will have competition in the freestyle division and will have
a double-elimination format.
Jordan added that they might hold a down-wind race from Aqua Resort Club
to Micro Beach.
Participants and spectators of the Kite Jam will be treated to live music
from local bands and from disc jockeys from Power 99 on Saturday and The
Rock on Sunday.
Just as the sport of kiteboarding continues to grow exponentially
worldwide, the Saipan Kite Jam will enjoy huge growth potential in the
coming years. This event will also set the bar as the first sole kiteboarding
competition in Micronesia, Jordan said.
The two-day tournament is supported by the Marianas Visitors Authority,
Gatorade, Pepsi, MillerLite, First Hawaiian Bank, Seafix; PTI, QuikSilver;
Pacific Islands Club, Airs Kiteworks Japan and Universal Kite School.
