I WOULD like to acknowledge the untimely passing of my uncle, Ben Concepcion.
It is with great sadness that such a wonderful human being was taken away from us so soon. For me it is a lot more profound because Uncle Ben saved my life and two other friends almost 16 years ago. We got lost at sea while surfing behind Payless, and while we were out there wondering what was going to happen to us, Uncle Ben braved the rough seas to pull us out of the water.
I am here today because of that man’s willingness to risk his life to save a group of young men.
I remember his nice disposition and the smile on his face. I have no memory of him ever being angry. He was a rare person who touched lives and spread happiness wherever he went. I will miss him. And Uncle Ben, thank you.
