Shirley’s volunteers clean up trash behind school

(DEQ) — On Jan. 24,volunteers from Shirley’s Coffee Shop joined together to pick up trash at the beach behind the Saipan Community School and Church.
The cleanup was their first of many, as Shirley’s Coffee Shop signed up with DEQ to participate in the Adopt-a-Beach program.
Over 48 pounds of trash were removed. The debris consisted of cigarettes and cigarette filters, food wrappers/containers, glass bottles, aluminum cans, cups, plates, forks, knives and other picnic-type garbage.
Congratulations to Shirley’s Coffee shop for demonstrating how community support can make a difference in the protection and conservation of our island’s marine resources.
