The Palau government will
be supporting Turkey governments bid for the United Nations Security
Council seat for the term 2009-2010.
President Remengesau in an interview said that Palau is throwing its support
to Turkey.
Last week Turkey Ambassador Aydin Sahinbas met President Remenegsau to
deliver the letter of Turkey President Ahmet Necdat Sezer asking for support
from Palau.
Sezer in his letter to President Remengesau said that Turkey is candidate
to one of the two non-permanent seats allocated to the Western European
and Other Groups in the UN Security Council for the term 2009-2010.
The elections for the seats will be held during the 63rd Session of the
UN General Assembly in 2008.
Turkey has not been represented in the Security Council since 1961, when
it served for a split term with another country.
The Turkey President in his letter stressed that his country has actively
contributed to the efforts to preserve peace and stability at the regional
and global levels and has supported the UN activities in social, economic
and humanitarian fields.
