The Melekeok State Capitol
Project was constructed with a contract amount of $226,139.65 from April
2004 to May 2006 by Korean firm Hanpa Construction Company.
It has been funded through grants from Taiwan and the national government
of Palau.
The over 40-year old Bailechesau building was demolished on the same site.
The new building that was envisioned for the site is a two-storey concrete
structure with a high pitch gable roof imitating that of a traditional
Palauan style roof.
This, 64 feet long by 40 feet wide two-storey structures first floor
is a multi purpose area for community meetings, state legislative sessions
and other public functions.
Also on the first floor is an in-house kitchen as well as two separate
male and female restrooms.
On the second floor are two big office spaces, one for the governor and
one for the Reklai.
There are two smaller offices intended for administrative personnel also
on the second floor.
A conference room is also located toward the back of the building on the
second floor.
The rooms are situated outer edge toward the perimeter walls and the center
of the same floor is open to the first floor.
