Republicans postpone general assembly

THE NMI Republican Party Association postponed its general membership meeting last week and re-scheduled it for Thursday, on the evening of Feb. 15, at the Garapan Central Park.
Party spokesman Kimo M. Rosario said the rainy weather on Thursday prompted the members to postpone their meeting.
He said they plan to discuss the party’s finances and proposed amendments to the GOP’s bylaws.
“The agenda items remain the same — the treasurer’s report, proposed amendments and other matters,” Rosario said in an e-mail to Variety.
Rosario said amendments to the bylaws may or may not be adopted by the board, depending on the outcome of the vote at the meeting.
“It should be noted that the proposed amendments to the bylaws are just proposals to the general membership ratifying them. In other words, in order for the amendments to take effect, they must first be approved by a majority vote of the general membership. Of course, there will be discussions on the proposals before they are put up for a final vote,” Rosario told Variety.
“Finality comes after the results of the voting are returned. And in a democratic process, it can go either way; meaning, the amendments may or may not be adopted. That’s totally up to the general membership to decide or in this particular case, vote on,” he said.
The process of amending the bylaws, he added, is in accordance with Article 25 of the GOP’s bylaws which states that “these bylaws may be altered, amended, or repealed and new bylaws may be adopted by a majority of the members at any regular or special meeting of the membership.”
Party leaders said the proposed amendments aim to ensure “equal representation” of the GOP’s general membership at the precinct-level.
The party’s Precinct 4 officials are opposed to these proposals.
