Public Health backs private nursing school

By Emmanuel T. Erediano
Variety News Staf

THE Department of Public Health is supporting the establishment of the post-secondary nursing school that a private firm plans to open on Saipan as soon as Northern Marianas College approves its curriculum.
Emmanuel College, which will be located in the former Koreana Hotel in Chalan Kanoa, will provide healthcare and other related courses to local and foreign students.
Public Health Secretary Joseph Kevin Villagomez said he is in full support of the proposed vocational nursing school.
He said the CNMI is in constant need of nurses for the only government hospital—the Commonwealth Health Center.
According to Villagomez, members of the Nursing Board who have approved the curriculum for the proposed school are also excited about having a private nursing school on the island.
