Tinian mayor extends contract of TCGCC chairman

MAYOR Jose P. San Nicolas has extended the term of the chairman and spokesman of the Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission for another four months, citing the new casino investments on the island.
William M. Cing’s six-year contract with the commission expired on Jan. 9.
San Nicolas said he approved Cing’s extension “because he is among the commissioners who really knows the applicants for casinos. I don’t want him to leave at this time because there is a lot of work on the new casinos here…and I believe it would be disadvantageous to us.”
San Nicolas said a new appointment will be announced once the extension of Cing’s contract ends.
“Because the law only allows me to extend for 120 days…we will be naming a replacement upon completion of these 120 days,” the mayor said.
The commission has five members — Cing, vice chairwoman Serafina R. King-Nabors, Juanita M. Mendiola, Peter Q. Cruz, and Francisco Borja.
King-Nabors’s contract will expire in May.
The rest are newly appointed members who still have a few more years to serve on the commission.
Each commissioner is limited to only one term.
Each is entitled to receive compensation not to exceed $75,000 annually from a budget adopted by the commission and approved by the Tinian Municipal Council.
