AN ex-convict has pleaded
guilty to burglarizing a vehicle and for stealing a womans purse.
Angel C. Ruben, with his counsel Assistant Public Defender Douglas W.
Hartig, appeared in Superior Court for a change of plea hearing yesterday
morning.
In exchange of the plea, Assistant Attorney General Rosemond Santos agreed
to dismiss the other charges.
Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama accepted the plea and sentenced Ruben to
five years of imprisonment for burglary and another five years for robbery.
The sentences will run concurrent and are all suspended except for 12
months with credit for time served from April 14 to 25, 2006 and from
June 31, 2006 up to the present time.
Ruben was placed on supervised probation for seven years.
He was ordered to perform 100 hours of community work service at a rate
of eight hours per month.
He will pay a fine of $200 and submit a letter of apology to the victims.
According to the Attorney Generals Office, Ruben, on June 7, 2006,
took the purse of Maria Matavia by the use of, or threatened use of, immediate
force of violence.
The AGO added that Ruben on March 22, 2006 entered the building or structure
occupied by Joseph Roberto with the purpose of committing theft.
Ruben was convicted on May 19, 2005 for attempted aggravated assault and
