Dublon Chiefs hope to hand Mwaliyas first loss in rocball

By Roselyn B. Monroyo
Variety News Staff

THE Dublon Chiefs are threatening to snap the Mwaliyas’ winning streak after claiming two of the three sets of their game in the World Organized Rocball Community League yesterday at the Marianas High School Gym.
The Dublon Chiefs were off to a strong start taking the first set, 15-8.
The defending champion Mwaliyas, who are undefeated in the second round with a 2-0 record, bounced back in the second set with a 12-point win, 15-3.
But the Mwaliyas failed to sustain its momentum in the third set, which the Dublon Chiefs won, 16-5.
The opening part of the fourth set was played yesterday, before the match was halted as students needed to return to class. The game was temporarily stopped with the Dublon Chiefs leading, 4-2.
When the game resumes today, the Dublon Chiefs will be enjoying a 38-30 lead, and are in good position to hand the Mwaliyas their first loss in the tournament. The Mwaliyas were also unbeaten in the regular season.
If the Dublon Chiefs win the fourth set and still have the lead after the regulation, they will improve to a 2-1 record and boost their chances for the semifinals.
Only the top four teams after the round-robin second round will advance to the semis and so far only Watch & Learn is assured of a spot in the Final Four with its 3-0 slate.
If the Dublon Chiefs lose the fourth set, but still hold the lead, the game will go into overtime. The Dublon Chiefs will need to win only one set to end the match, while the Mwaliyas must prevail in two sets to keep their perfect record.
Ichnis Kapwich was leading the Dublon Chiefs with six points on three aces.
So far, nine aces, three xunxs and three kees were scored in the game.
