The 2007 Saipan Little League Baseball season kicks off tonight with the Jets and the Tanapag Falcons of the Big League division colliding in the opener at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
“We’re excited about opening the season and we’re requesting the parents’ presence at the opening and during the games to watch their kids play,” SLLB president Joe Salas said.
The opening ceremony will be held at 6 p.m. and is expected to be attended by government and baseball officials and members of the 31 participating teams in the Junior, Senior, Major and Big Leagues.
Salas, in an interview with the Variety, said that they invited Gov. Benigno R. Fitial, the speaker of the House and the Senate, the presidents of Tinian and Rota little leagues and NMI District Administrator James Ada to attend the opening rites.
Salas is reminding teams to be at the venue at 5:30, as the opening ceremony will start promptly at 6 p.m.
The Falcons-Jets tiff will follow immediately after the opening ceremony.
After tonight’s opening, SLLB will be holding games on Saturday and Sunday.
This season, SLLB will be implementing a pitch count policy allowing pitchers to pitch at a certain number of times. When they reach the limit, they must be replaced.
