SIXTEEN matches are scheduled
on the opening day of the 2007 Coconut Classic Tennis Tournament tomorrow
at the American Memorial Park tennis courts.
Games in the boys 13-and-under division singles will start the hostilities
in the annual event, which will run from Feb. 17 to 19 and is being organized
by the Northern Mariana Islands Tennis Association.
Song Chang Hyun takes on Andrew Johnson at 8 a.m., while two more games
will be played at the same time at the different courts.
Lucas Nutting squares off with Bradley Brostrom, while Brian Mailman meets
Ryan Baron at 8 a.m.
Four other matches in the boys 13-and-under are set for Saturday
morning.
At 9 a.m., Nathan Nutting faces Jake Lee, Andy Nutting collides with Hundetr
Thorpe and Cody Race fights Christian Miller.
The final game of the day in the boys 13-and-under will feature
Kevin Yang challenging Clay McCollough Sterns at 11 a.m.
Other events that will be played on the opening day are matches in the
mens singles, mens over 40 singles, boys 18-and-under,
boys 9-and-under and girls 13-and-under.
Only one game is set for the mens singles with Nicholas Son taking
on Ji Hoon Heo at 5 p.m.
The mens 40-and-over singles will have three opening matches with
Larry Knecht and Ganover Rettin meeting at 3 p.m.
On the other court at the same time, Dr. Dastoor battles Steve Nutting.
The first match in the mens 40-and-over singles will have Alexander
Bauman facing Gary Ramsey at 11 a.m.
In the boys 18-and-under, Benjie Decena squares off with Johnny
Johnson at 5 p.m.
Two games are set for the boys 9-and-under with Chris Cajigan fighting
Dylan Ackerman at 10 a.m. and Aaron Lee taking on Colin Ramsey at 11 a.m.
In the girls 13-and-under, Theecel Minor battles Michaela Grandinetti
and Ilia Correla challenges Jessica Soll. Both matches are set for 10
a.m.
Aside from the singles matches, NMITA will be holding a mixed up doubles
competition, in which a junior player can choose a partner from the upper
age groups or from the mens and womens singles divisions.
Other pairings and schedules of the three-day tournament are posted on
the AMP courts bulletin board.
