The ongoing improvement and
expansion works on the road from the Palau International Airport to Ngerikiil
is 35 percent complete.
According to Derrick Mar, Project Manager said that the construction work
is on schedule and that if the weather continues to be sunny, the road
will be completed by June 2008.
Mar said sheet piling and installation of telecommunication cables have
been completed and by March putting in place of new water lines will commence.
The four kilometer road connects to Package B of the Compact Road.
Mar said the temporary closure of the Package B of the road also expedited
work on the road.
Improvement of the road began on June 2006 and is being undertaken by
Tao-Yuan a construction company based in Taiwan and this is the first
time that they are conducting a project in Palau.
The Taiwanese company is one of the top construction companies in their
country.
That part of the road is being improved to make it more passable and cut
travel time to the capitol.
The improvement of the road also ensures that all sections on the way
to the capitol will be paved..
