THE Division of Youth Services held a parent leadership development training on Saturday at the Tanapag youth center.
The training aims to give parents guidance in managing a family which is key to the proper development of youth, said DYS Director Deborah Inos.
The first topic discussed was family financial management and parents were presented with ways to stretch their budgets.
Financial considerations are seen to have a direct effect on the behavior of a growing child.
The parents were also given tips on how to keep their children away from drugs and alcohol.
Healthy living and nutrition were also discussed as well as topics about love and communication.
DYS, Inos said, will continue its program involving parents in youth development as the division marks the third year of overseeing the Tanapag Youth Center.
Inos also said officers of the juvenile detention center in Kagman will have further training sessions in the coming months as follow-ups to the one that was held two weeks ago.
The 18 detention officers who attended safety training were given certificates on Friday.
According to Inos, the second phase of the training will include the proper handling of riots in the detention facility.
The trainees, who are probation officers, detention officers and child protective unit investigators will also be undergoing an advanced level of safety training.
