THIS summer, the University
of Guam will again offer its unique low cost/high performance
cultural tour through Asia.
The trip runs a little less than four weeks, from June 9 to July 8.
The tour covers India, Thailand, and Nepal. Besides having a UOG expert
in Asian culture, philosophy, and religion along with the travelers, efforts
have also been made to get the best local and national guides for the
trip, according to UOG spokesperson Cathleen Moore-Linn.
Under the tour rules, the participant can take the tour for academic credit
(3 UOG credits-graduate or undergraduate) or for non-credit with no tuition
charge.
According to a news release from the university, participants can expect
to see the Taj Mahal, numerous forts, palaces and temples, as well as
less visited, unique sites from the Hindu, Buddhist, Moslem, Christian,
and Jain traditions.
In addition, there will be some time for fun excursions such as White
Water rafting in the Himalayan mountains, going on an elephant safari
through the Chitwan National Park, catching colorful cultural shows of
dance, theatre, and song, and visiting local shopping markets.
The actual cost of the trip will vary based on the number of people who
go on the trip and the exact number of sites that the group collectively
selects to see.
However, a concerted effort will be made to keep the total cost of the
trip at around $2,600.
An initiative meeting on the tour has already been held and interested
parties can get information at 735-2800 or kskoog@uog9.uog.edu.
