A MAN was caught on camera stealing a wallet from a Japanese tourist while she and her friends were taking photos at the Fujita beach.
Guam Police Department public affairs officer Allan Guzman said the 50-year-old tourist told police that someone stole her wallet.
Peter S.N. Opena, 46, of Mangilao, was arrested in this case. He was booked and released. Police reports did not indicate whether the wallet was recovered.
“The good thing about it was that she caught the suspect on camera. The suspect (Opena) befriended the woman and her friend on two occasions, on Feb. 15 and 16. The women were having their photos taken at the time the man reached into her handbag and stole the wallet. He was charged with theft of property,” Guzman added.
Woman chased by 3 men
A woman in her 40’s was walking home from work on Friday in Dededo near the Fatima Mobil Gas Station when he was approached by three men.
“She was confronted by three male Micronesians who offered her a ride. She denied their offer, which turned into a racial thing. The woman feared for her life and ran. The men began to chase after her,” GPD’s Guzman said.
The woman flagged down a vehicle, asking for the driver’s assistance. The driver of the vehicle noticed that she was being chased by the three suspects.
The driver of the vehicle contacted police and told about the woman’s situation. Police arrived and were able to arrest one of the three suspects.
Alfref David Mosses, 27, of Dededo, was arrested and charged with terrorizing and public drunkenness.
“Police are still looking for the two other suspects. They were seen running towards GHURA 48 housing in that area,” Guzman said.
Church robbed
The Santa Bernedita Catholic Church in Agafa Gumas was robbed last week. GPD’s Guzman said the people of the church said that a compressor for their 47,000-BTU air-conditioning unit was last seen at 8:45 p.m. on Friday.
Anyone with information on these cases is asked to call Guam Crime Stoppers at 477-HELP(4357) or Guam Police at 472-8911.
