5 MidPac employees arrested for theft

By Trina A. San Agustin
Variety News Staff

FIVE employees of Mid-Pacific Distributors Inc., or MidPac, were arrested late yesterday afternoon after an internal audit determined that they stole $224,000 from the company.
Arrested and charged with theft of property were Terry Joe Gogue, 26; James Borja Untalan, 32, of Dededo; Leandon Frias Sarmiento, 26, of Mangilao; Rick Francisco Sablan, 26, of Yigo; and Arlan Quiil Marquez, also of Yigo.
They were all booked and confined. Guam Police Department public affairs officer Allan Guzman said four of the five employees worked in the company’s cigarette sales department and the fifth one was a driver.
“The general manager of MidPac reported to Guam Police on Monday, Feb. 12, that he had found discrepancies in the company’s cigarette sales for the month of January. A joint investigation was then launched with GPD Dededo precinct officers and Criminal Investigation Section. They were able to uncover five employees executing numerous unauthorized transactions,” Guzman told Variety.
Guzman said police were not able to recover, thus far, any of the money.
It was not known as of press time how long the theft was going on. The case remains under investigation.
Burglar busted by home owner
In other news, police officers are looking for another man involved in a burglary.
GPD’s Guzman said the 21-year-old female homeowner in Yigo heard crashing noises in her home, went to investigate it, and found a man in her home.
“The suspect began to apologize to the woman and left the residence. He apparently broke into the residence and didn’t think anyone was home. So he was surprised when the homeowner was there. The male suspect has been described as of Micronesian descent,” Guzman said.
If you have any information on this case, call Guam Crime Stoppers at 477-HELP(4357) or GPD at 472-8911.
