A 52-year-old teacher who
was arrested for punching a woman who refused to have sex with him has
posted bail.
Peter Edward Gannon was allowed to post 10 percent of the $2,500 cash
bail imposed by the Superior Court.
Gannon was released from the custody of the Department of Corrections
after he posted a cash bail of $250 and an unsecured bond of $2,250 last
week.
The preliminary hearing for Gannon, which was set for yesterday, was vacated
by the Superior Court when it learned that he had already posted bail.
Gannon is set to appear again in court on Feb. 26 for arraignment.
He was charged with two counts of assault and battery for punching a woman
in the face and arm while in his car on Jan. 28.
The police affidavit of Detective Katherine Manglona stated that the victim
works at the Chicago Club where she met Gannon.
Gannon invited the victim to breakfast which she accepted.
After he and the victim had had breakfast at Shirleys in Garapan,
they left the restaurant and Gannon told her that he needed to sleep and
that he would drop the victim home later that morning.
The victim thought Gannonwould drop her first at her barracks before he
went home, but he made a left turn and continued driving on the road leading
to the Kannat Tabla area
Gannon, according to the police affidavit, told the victim that he wanted
to have sex with her because it was their first night out together.
The victim refused and grabbed the steering wheel in an attempt to turn
the car.
Gannon drove the car to his place but then drove it to the victims
barracks.
He then stopped the car and punched the victim in the arm, police said.
The victim tried to get out of the vehicle but couldnt because the
door was locked.
When she managed to get out of the vehicle, Gannon followed her and punched
her in the face several times, according to the police affidavit.
The victim managed to escape and ran toward her barracks.
Gannon was arrested on Feb. 8 at 2:54 pm at Chalan Piao. He was brought
to Superior Court the following day for a bail hearing.
