THE Department of Public Safety’s new public information officer is a 23-year-old graduate in business administration.
Lei Ogumoro Uludong said she applied for the job in Nov. 2006 and was hired on Wednesday.
The new spokeswoman admitted having no experience with the media, but added that she is willing to learn.
Uludong got her degree from Saint Mary’s College in California in May 2006.
“This is my first job in the CNMI and I’m glad to be on board to work with the DPS team. I’m glad to be working with the commissioner and I will give my best,” said Uludong, who graduated from Mount Carmel High School in 2002.
The new PIO is related to the acting police director, Capt. Aniceto Ogumoro.
Uludong is now being trained by Sgt. Thomas Blas Jr., who was the acting spokesman of the department for several months.
Blas is now the officer-in-charge of the sex offender registry program and the juvenile unit.
Blas, in a separate interview, said that he’s no longer the coordinator of the NMI Crime Stoppers Program.
Blas was replaced by PO2 Anthony Diaz effective Sunday. Diaz was assigned to the DPS summons section before.
Blas served as coordinator of Crime Stoppers for five years.
