PEOPLE from all walks of life are expected to gather tomorrow to pay their last respects to the late Army Spc. Lee Roy Apatang Camacho.
Camacho, 28, was killed in action on Feb. 9 in an explosion during breaching operations in Baqubah, Iraq.
He leaves behind his wife, Velma Matagolai Camacho, and their three sons.
A special plane will bring home Camacho’s remains around 2:30 p.m. today at the airport.
The fallen soldier was with Bravo Company, 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, Fort Hood, Texas.
He was deployed to Iraq in Oct. 2006.
The Senate yesterday adopted a resolution expressing its sincere and heartfelt condolences to Camacho’s family, his parents, Jose and Maria, his brothers and sisters and their relatives.
“Camacho’s courage and valor shall be forever remembered by the people of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands,” the resolution stated.
According to his sister, Juanette, Camacho entered the military hoping to improve his family’s economic situation.
Camacho used to work at a store on Saipan before he joined the military.
His family described him as a very jovial person who was always ready to lend a helping hand.
The military awarded him the Purple Heart, the Iraq Campaign Medal, the Bronze Star, the Army Good Conduct Medal and the Combat Infantryman Badge.
Veterans are preparing a flag presentation and motorcade for Camacho
