Red Cross joins cleanup program

THE local chapter of the American Red Cross has joined many other businesses and organizations in the island wide “Adopt a Beach” program.
In collaboration with the Division of Environmental Quality, the NMI chapter has taken on the responsibility of cleaning up and maintaining the beach area in southern Lau Lau Bay.
“We are proud to be helping our community by restoring and improving these important beach front areas,” said long-time volunteer Jerry Facey.
The chapter volunteers not only cleaned up the area but also took the initiative to construct and repair benches and shelters that had been previously destroyed by typhoons.
“This project was truly a team effort and we hope that families will enjoy this newly improved beach front area,” said Red Cross board member John Guerrero.
The Red Cross is a volunteer-led organization, chartered in the commonwealth in 1978. For more information on how to help those in need, call 234-3459.
