Moto-X reigns in third round of Championship Series

THE third round of the Guam Motorcycle and Atv Corporation’s scheduled 10 round Guam Moto-X Championships at the Calvo Memorial Off-road Park split in two separating the Motorbikes and Atv challenges.
On Sunday, at the Guam International Raceway in Yigo, Motocross racers from the tiniest of 50cc mini bikes upward to the larger open machines of the motocross legend were all the rage as the sport continues to grow on the island noted GRF Public Information Officer Rob Bucek.
“With the sudden surge of intro level riders now participating in the GMAC event the level of excitement has risen,” stated Bucek.
Bucek added that fans and riders alike got a dose of highs and lows as “the course was hard packed making for slick conditions which claimed a few riders as they misjudged and went down.” He explained, “the course also was rough with braking bumps entering many of the corners and several large acceleration ruts that would have riders tank slapping if they were not careful. Besides being rough the course was full of jumps that sent the participants sailing high through the air much of the time side by side with a fellow competitor. Racing kicked off at about 1pm.”
Bucek offered a rundown of results:
In the 50cc mini bike division #8 Anthony Griffen (Hon) swept the field to take first over #9 Kyle Corbett (Hon) who took second and Rowan Perira (Suz) who placed third.
High flying 65cc mini bike action saw #4 Ricco Pereira (Kaw) and #44 Tomas Aguon (Kaw) go head to head for the win with #3 Jr Cepeda chasing them in third. At the end it was Pereira who took the round win with Aguon placing second and Cepeda taking home third.
In the 85cc Womens class #29 Brittany Angoco and her red Honda continues dominate as she took the win once again over second place finisher #52 Breanne Pine (Kaw) and third place finisher #20 Tyanna Cruz (Hon).
The 85cc Novice saw two 65cc racers go up to the larger machines and take the top positions. #44 Tomas Aguon took the win with #111 Jacob Einloth placing second.
The 85cc Expert division was once again dominated by an Angoco family rider- #14 Errol Angoco aboard a Yamaha Yz-85 had swept every race this year and round three was no exception as he once more took the win over second place finisher #617 Troy Corpuz (Suz) and third place finisher #78 Kyle Cruz (Suz).
In the Open Vet class #51 Frank Rios aboard the RPM Yamaha Yzf-450 took the early lead and was beginning to stretch that lead when he punctured his rear tire causing him to be overtaken by #52 Bryan Pine on the Pine Rental Kawasaki Kxf-250 and #55 Paul Angoco (Kaw). Pine took the win over Angoco who placed second with #53 Tom Tarnate on the borrowed Cycles Plus Kxf-250 taking third.
The next scheduled round of the championships will be round 4 on March 18th with racing set to start at 1pm. The event will be free for those who want to come and watch the high flying racing action.
Bucek noted that this weekend, race fans can get another dose of moto-X action. “The next scheduled Guam Motorcycle and Atv Corporation event will be on Sunday February 25 th in Umatac as the GMAC takes its racing to the Discovery Day Celebration.
