THE defending champion Mwaliyas
handed Watch & Learns its first loss in the World Organized Rocball
Community League after pulling off a 52-48 juiced-out win last Friday
at the Marianas High School Gym.
The Mwaliyas had to thwart Watch & Learns rally in the fourth
set to improve to a 4-0 record in the second round of the annual tournament.
The defending champions were ahead at 10-0 in the fourth set when Watch
& Learn worked its way back into the game and tied the fourth set
at 13-all.
But Watch & Learn failed to complete its comeback, as it wasted its
chances to notch the game point twice.
The Mwaliyas regained the serve and Shane Yamada nailed a kee to lift
his team to an 18-13 triumph.
Only the remaining half of the third set and the full fourth set were
played last Friday.
Two and a half sets of the game were played last Thursday with Watch &
Learn taking the first set, 15-1. The Mwaliyas bounced back with a 16-9
victory in the second set.
The third set was tied at 8-all when the game was halted as students needed
to return to class.
When the game resumed last Friday, the Mwaliyas found renewed strength
to post a 17-11 victory.
The defending champions picked up where they left off, as they had an
explosive start in the fourth set leading by 10 before Watch & Learn
made a run, but lost steam at the end.
The loss dropped Watch & Learn to a 3-1 record in the second round.
With the win, the Mwaliyas are assured of the No. 1 spot in the semifinals.
The Mwaliyas and Watch & Learn both have one game left before moving
to the Final Four.
Four other teams will be vying for the remaining two semis spots. They
are the Dublon Chiefs (1-2), Black Magic (1-2), Da Lani Kynez (1-2) and
Kich Fairo (0-2).
