THE Commonwealth Ports Authority
will sue its former payroll service provider, Information Data System,
to recover over half a million dollars that the company failed to account
for last year.
CPA Executive Director Clyde K. Norita said they will file the lawsuit
next week.
In October last year, CPA filed a criminal complaint against the Guam-based
company for failing to transfer about $500,000 which covered the retirement
contributions of the agencys employees for seven pay periods.
CPA, which has 220 personnel, had been doing business with IDS for five
years.
Our plan now is to go ahead and file a civil suit against IDS to
recover our money. Were just awaiting the formal notification from
(the Office of the Public Auditor) which will tell us when to file it,
Norita told Variety on Friday.
He said they consulted OPA to make sure that there wont be
any problem with regard to the investigation.
Norita added, We want this thing to be resolved as soon as possible.
We didnt take any action after the filing of the criminal complaint
(with the Department of Public Safety) because we didnt want to
hamper or compromise the criminal investigation.
IDS failed to transfer over $12 million into the accounts of its Guam
and Saipan clients last year.
Its other clients on Saipan included Saipan World Resort, Nikko Hotel
and Pacific Islands Club.
