FOLLOWING the resignation of former Tinian Mayor Francisco M. Borja as its chairman on the island, the Covenant Party has reorganized and elected a new set of officers.
Elected as the new chairman was Gary P. Aldan.
The reorganization meeting on Friday was attended by Tinian Mayor Jose P. San Nicolas, former Mayors Borja, Ignacio K. Quichocho and James M. Mendiola; former Rep. Joaquin H. Borja; and the Covenant members of the island’s legislative delegation — Senate President Joseph M. Mendiola, Sen. Henry H. San Nicolas and Rep. Edwin P. Aldan.
Also in attendance were Municipal Council Chairman Francisco Q. Cruz, vice chairwoman Charlene M. Lizama, and other members of the party on Tinian.
The newly elected chairman, in a statement, stressed the need for party unity.
“We must continue to stay united as a party and we must continue doing the work of the people, together as one,” said Aldan.
The rest of the Tinian party’s new officers are Rita Manglona, vice chairwoman; Bernardita C. Palacios, secretary; and Evelyn B. Manglona, treasurer.
Mayor San Nicolas and former Mayor Borja will serve as advisors to the Tinian Covenant Party.
The officers on Tinian are expected to meet with Commonwealth Covenant Party chairman Alvaro Santos this week to discuss the midterm elections.
Variety was told that although no official decisions have been made by the party, all members on Tinian voiced their support for the re-election of incumbent Senator San Nicolas and Representative Aldan.
Both are serving their first terms as legislators.
“I have had the privilege of serving with Senator San Nicolas and Congressman Aldan, and I must say they are the right team for Tinian. They are aware of the issues facing Tinian and the commonwealth, and they have proven to be hardworking members of the Commonwealth Legislature,” Senate President Mendiola said in a statement.
