A 24-year-old man spent his
birthday yesterday in jail after he was arrested by the police for punching
his girlfriend during an argument.
Marcelo Hanio La Dion Jr., was arrested on Friday and brought to Superior
Court for a bail hearing yesterday morning.
La Dion was represented by Assistant Public Defender Samuel Randall while
the government was represented by Assistant Attorney General Kevin Lynch.
But La Dion will not be charged with assault and battery and disturbing
the peace for he is leaving the CNMI tomorrow.
He is to remain in the custody of the Department of Corrections until
his departure.
Associate Judge Juan T. Lizama ordered Corrections to escort La Dion directly
to the airport at 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
La Dion came here four months ago as a tourist to visit his girlfriend
and daughter. He was scheduled to go back tomorrow.
Prior to the assault incident, La Dion and his girlfriend were at a friends
birthday party in Garapan.
They were both drinking alcohol. Later, La Dion accused his girlfriend
of having an affair with another man, which she denied.
La Dion left the party but came back later and again accused the victim,
this time pulling her hair, punching her in the head and face, and dragging
her onto the road.
La Dion only stopped when he was told that the police were coming.
La Dion was arrested and transported to the Department of Corrections
for booking and detention.
It was his birthday yesterday.
