Guam OPA announces professional certifications of 3 auditors

The Office of the Public Auditor announces the professional certifications of three OPA staff auditors — Paul A. Gentry, Rodalyn May G. Marquez, and Maria Angela dL Quinto.
Gentry has met all professional education, experience and examination requirements established by the Guam Board of Accountancy and received his license to practice as a certified public accountant on Guam.
Gentry is also certified as a CPA in Illinois. He joined the Office of the Public Auditor in Oct, 2005. He previously was an auditor with the firm of Deloitte and Touche Tohmatsu LLC working with commercial and government audit clients in Guam.
Gentry earned his masters of accountancy at Western Michigan University in 1995.
Marquez received her professional certification as a certified internal auditor by successfully completing the four-part examination administered by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
The examination evaluates technical competence in critical areas related to internal auditing.
Only candidates who successfully meet the rigorous requirements and high standards established by the IIA for character, education and experience hold the certified internal auditor professional designation.
Marquez is also a certified government financial manager.
She has served as an auditor in the Office of the Public Auditor since Jan. 2003 and has worked with complex, financial and compliance audits in the government of Guam.
Marquez earned her accounting degree at the University of Guam in 2002. Her parents are Roger and Soledad Gerardo. She is married to Arnel I. Marquez and they have one son, Theone Jay.
Quinto successfully met the professional certification requirements established by the Association of Government Accountants and received her certification as a certified government financial manager.
She successfully completed the three-part examination and has two years of professional-level experience in government financial management.
This professional designation recognizes the unique skills and specialized knowledge required to meet the challenge of using every government financial resource in the most effective manner to safeguard the public trust.
CGFM professionals must complete 80 hours of continuing education in government financial management or related technical subjects every two years.
Quinto has served as an auditor in the Office of the Public Auditor since Aug. 2004 working on the most complex audits in the government of Guam.
She was previously employed as a budget analyst with the Guam Legislature.
Quinto earned her finance and economics degree at the University of Guam in 2003.
