THE SAIPANCELL Patriots’ Brian Camacho made the first over the fence homerun in the 2007 season of the Majors division of the Saipan Little League Baseball tournament en route to leading the defending champions to a 9-1 win over the Bank of Saipan Red Sox last Sunday at the Miguel “Tan Ge” Basa Pangelinan Ballfield.
Camacho was the first to bat at the bottom of the first inning when he hit the ball for a homerun over the fence.
Aside from a homerun, Camacho also had a double and was 3-for-4 improving the Patriots record to 3-0.
Also helping the Patriots continue their streak was Lamarc Iguel, who went 2-for-3 and had back-to-back triples.
The Red Sox absorbed their first loss in three matches. Last Friday, the Red Sox resumed their game against the Ol’Aces 1 and went home with a 12-2 win.
The Red Sox-Ol’Aces tiff was first played on Jan. 20 with the former leading at 4-2. The game was called off due to haze caused by the Anatahan volcano.
In other results, the Hustlers gained a share of the Majors lead after blanking the Kautz Glass Pirates, 14-0.
AJ Lizama and Rey Saralu were the top performers in the Hustlers demolition of the Pirates.
Lizama went 3-for-4 and had three runs, a double, a single and one inside the park homerun.
Saralu was 4-of-4 and made two runs, one single and a triple.
The AA Enterprise Tanapag Braves after losing their debut against the Patriots in the league opener, posted back-to-back wins with a 10-0 victory over the Toyota Matrix. The Braves won their second game against the Twins.
The Braves’ pitcher Peter Lieto pitched in no relief in four innings allowing only one hit.
On offense, the Braves leaned on Jonathan Camacho and Ricky Joe Riungel.
Camacho went 2-for-2 and nailed two runs, double, one triple and one RBI.
Riungel also went 2-for-2 and had two runs, two RBIs and a triple.
The Braves handed the Matrix their third loss in as many games.
In the first game in the Majors, Junah Flores delivered a cycle, as his Wells Fargo As Matuis Twins clobbered the Ol’Aces 1, 31-6.
Flores went 4-for-5 and had four runs and four RBIs.
Two other players contributed for the Twins’ lopsided victory.
Robert Tudela went 4-for-4 and made four runs, two triples, one double and 7 RBIs, while Ton Camacho went 4-for-5 and had four runs and two doubles.
There were no games last Saturday due to rain.
Juniors: Jets top Ol’Aces
Meanwhile, in the Juniors division game last Sunday, the Jets whipped the Ol’Aces, 19-2.
Anthony Salas went perfect on the field with his 3-for-3 and added two triples, a single, four runs and two RBIs.
Ike Agulto was also perfect with his 4-for-4 and made four runs, a triple, two singles, 4 RBIs and a homerun.
