DPS cites rescued boat

A BOAT operator was given a boating re-inspection citation after the vessel was rescued by the Department of Public Safety’s boating safety section officers at the Tinian Dump Coke Reef.
DPS spokeswoman Lei Ogumoro-Uludong said the operator of the fishing boat was Joseph Manalo, 37.
Manalo and his companion Felix Kileleman, 45, were rescued on Thursday after their boat’s engine died.
Uludong said DPS was notified about the distressed vessel at 11:56 a.m. by the Emergency Management Office.
Boating Safety Officers David Rabauliman and Nobert Pua launched the rescue vessel Zodiac III and located the vessel two miles west of Dump Coke Reef at 2:05 p.m.
Manalo and Kileleman were found in good condition and their boat was towed back to Smiley Cove.
The fishing boat left Smiley Cove at 9:30 a.m. on Thursday, but when it got to its destination, the engine died and could not be restarted.
Manalo then called EMO for assistance via VHF channel 16.
Rescued men
DPS said Boating Safety also rescued three men stranded at Dump Coke Reef.
The men were Antonio Camacho, 64, Anthony M. Camacho, 19, and Frank Iguel, 46.
The three on a vessel bound to Tinian. The boat left Sugar Dock on Thursday morning.
At 7:45 a.m., the boat started experiencing engine problems west of Dump Coke Reef. Its engine died and could not be restarted.
Antonio Camacho, the operator of the boat, immediately called for assistance.
Boating Safety officers launched Zodiac III and rescued the distressed vessel.
The officers inspected the boat it was found to be in compliance.
