KHS, MHS meet in last game of regular season in MISA caging

By Roselyn B. Monroyo
Variety News Staff

THE regular season of the 2007 MISA High School Basketball League ends today with Kagman High School and Marianas High School playing their last game before entering the playoffs.
The Lady Ayuyus collide with the Lady Dolphins at 4:30 p.m. with the former hoping to sweep the regular season.
Kagman’s girls’ team is already assured of the No. 1 seeding, while the Lady Dolphins are hoping to end their four-game losing streak and notch their second win to avoid being paired with the Lady Ayuyus in the playoffs.
An upset over the undefeated Lady Ayuyus would move the Lady Dolphins (1-4) to a semis tiff with Mt. Carmel (4-2).
But if the Lady Ayuyus sweep the regular season, MHS, which is the defending champion in the girls’ division, would tie Southern High School with a 1-5 record. To break the tie, a quotient system will be implemented since the Lady Dolphins and the Lady Rays split their games.
In the boys’ division, the results of the KHS-MHS match will no longer change the pairings in the playoffs.
After Sourthern swept the regular season, it arranged a playoff tiff with the winless MCS Knights.
The Dolphins are currently in second place with a 3-2 record, while Kagman is ranked third with a 2-3 slate.
MHS won its initial meeting with the Ayuyus and wants to make it two in a row to have a big psychological advantage in their playoff game.
The playoffs will start on March 7 with the four teams in the girls’ division fighting for the two championship berths.
The No. 1 team faces the No. 4 team in the first game at 4:30 p.m. , while the No. 2 and 3 squads square off for the second and last finals ticket at 6:30 p.m.
The playoffs in the boys’ division are set for March 9 with the No. 2 and 3 teams playing in the first game at 4:30 p.m. The second game will feature the No. 1 and No. 4 squads at 6:30 p.m.
The winner-take-all championship game in the girls’ division is set for March 14, while the do-or-die finals in the boys’division is scheduled for March 16.
