G-Rollers top Tinian to claim Christmas caging title

THE Garapan Rollers made short work of Tinian nailing a 51-22 win to secure the girls’ division title in the 3rd Annual Christmas Basketball League at the Gilbert C. Ada Gym last Friday.
Former Women’s National Team member Chelsea Ruluked proved to be too much of a class act against Tinian cagebelles, as she fired more than half of the G-Rollers total production.
Ruluked, who helped the NMI win the gold medal in the 6th Micronesian Games last year and was also instrumental in Aqua’s title victory in the Mobil co-ed league, even outscored the entire Tinian team, as she exploded for 32 points in the championship match.
Ruluked started slow drilling her first two points from the free throw line. But she soon found her rhythm and made her way to the basket.
She finished the first quarter with nine points and gave the G-Rollers a 16-6 lead.
Tinian failed to stop Ruluked in the second quarter, as the G-Rollers’ main gunner added eight more points and helped her team maintain a double-digit lead at halftime, 24-10.
Tinian was held to only two field goals in the second quarter and it’s offense turned worse in the third period, as the visitors scored only two points.
Scoring was not a problem for the G-Rollers in the second half, as Ruluked continued to connect on her shots and her teammates stepped up.
Ruluked had nine markers in the third period, while Nicole Lebria and Glarisha Mobel chipped in four apiece.
The G-Rollers outgunned Tinian in the third, 16-2, as the eventual champions entered the payoff period with a comfortable 40-12 advantage.
Tinian had its best scoring quarter in the fourth period firing 10 points. But most of its points came when the game was already decided and the G-Rollers started to loosen up on defense a bit.
Sasha Pangelinan led Tinian’s losing cause firing eight points.
