FORMER Lt. Gov. Kaleo S. Moylan
quietly slipped away from public life and retreated into the comfort of
his privacy, shunning media interviews after the Sept. 2 primary, in which
he lost his bid for governor.
Although his career ended on a sour note as a result of his tiff with
Gov. Felix P. Camacho, Moylan said he had no regrets.
I enjoyed my four years as lieutenant governor and before that,
my four years in the Legislature, Moylan said in a reluctant interview
with Variety after the inaugural ceremony for Camacho and Lt. Gov. Mike
Cruz at the Plaza de Espana.
Camacho and Moylan had a falling out two years ago when the governor attempted
to reorganize the Guam State Clearinghouse, which is under the lieutenant
governors office. The relationship became worse when Camacho chose
Cruz to be his running mate, prompting Moylan to run against his former
partner in the primary with former Democratic Sen. Francis Santos as his
running mate.
Both Republican teams political campaigns were well-tempered but
not exactly without tension. There was talk that after the primary,
Moylans supporters shifted their loyalty to the Democratic team.
There was no public show of reconciliation between the two old pals, but
Moylan said weve always reconciled.
Were only fighting in the press, Moylan chuckled.
In his inaugural address, Camacho gave recognition to Moylan whom he referred
to as a gentleman that he said he will always respect.
When asked if he had any message for the new administration, Moylan replied:
I wish everyone a happy new year and the best of luck. I know therell
be many challenges, but by working collaboratively with the Legislature,
they will be able to overcome these challenges.
Moylan said he will make a public announcement about his plans in the
near future.
