SEPARATE but equal. The island’s preteens and teens are set to butt heads in interscholastic athletics, albeit under different governing bodies.
The sports association for the island’s private schools, the Independent Interscholastic Athletic Association of Guam will kick off Boys’ basketball and girls’ soccer in the fourth week of this month, on Jan. 22. The association will release the official schedule once it is finalized.
The middle schools of the Guam Public School System are also gearing up for boys’ basketball and girls’ soccer which starts around Jan. 17.
In the high school league, both private and public middle schools operate under one governing body and will finalize its season schedules today.
According to IIAAG Vice President Marty Boudreau the high school sports slated for third quarter play are boys’ and girls’ Rugby, Golf, wrestling and boys’ basketball.
“We’ll be meeting (today) and the AD’s will have a meeting, hopefully - and we’ll be finalizing schedules for the third quarter,” explained Boudreau.
Last month second quarter sports action at the high school level included baseball, girls’ basketball and tennis.
