MOF, OEK work together on the budget

President Remengesau said that the Ministry of Finance and the Legislature is in constant communication to discuss the proposed Fiscal Year 2007 budget.
The president said during his weekly press conference last week said that the Ministry of Finance is meeting with respective chairman of the Olbiil Era Kelulau regarding the progress of the budget.
Earlier President Remengesau referred the budget bill back to the OEK for some revisions.
The country is presently operating under continuing resolution which will lapse on Dec. 31.
On Thursday, the Senate approved the budget bill "based on a compromise."
In his referral letter, the president said although he has some concerns over the budget bill, "I believe that we are very close to the conclusion of this year’s budgetary process."
The Senate approved a $57,507,417 appropriation for FY 2007, did not agree with the president to scrap the section regarding hiring an independent counsel to conduct a probe on the Pacific Savings Bank situation.
The president however objected to the hiring of a separate independent counsel.
