Eighth grade students of Koror
Elementary School made some 49 "confined" elders in Koror happy,
giving them an early Christmas treat Friday.
A total of 96 students from this grade level held a canned food and dry
goods drive Thursday afternoon in front of Midtown Mobil in Koror that
were distributed to some 49 elders who have been confined in their homes
due to illness of old age the following day.
Ferista Ngirailild, vice principal of Koror Elementary School, said the
drive was a success as many community memberscomposed of parents,
alumni, and teachers, businessmen and lawmakersdropped in their
donations at Midtown Mobil. Before the actual day, teachers and students
of the school sent out letters asking officials and community members
for donations of either canned goods or dry goods.
"It was very successful as people came with their donations in kind
and in cash. Were very thankful for them. On behalf of Koror Elementary
School, our principal, teachers and students, we would like to thank everyone
for their donations and contributions," Ngirailild told Horizon.
KES principal Andrew Tabelual accompanied the students during the drive
at the Mobil station.
Last Friday morning, the students aboard a bus courtesy of the Old Age
Center through Lilian Nakamura, distributed and visited elders at their
respective homes. Each elder received two bags filled with assorted canned
goods and toiletries and a $25 in cash.
