A MAN was struck by a vehicle
while walking in the southbound lane along 2W Tanapag on Tuesday night.
Acting Department of Public Safety spokesman Sgt. Thomas Blas Jr., said
the pedestrian was still unidentified and remains in the intensive care
unit at the Commonwealth Health Center as of press time.
Blas said after DPS received the report of an auto-pedestrian accident,
medics were dispatched to the scene.
The pedestrian sustained serious head injuries.
A preliminary investigation conducted by Traffic Officer Daniel Smith
disclosed that a white Toyota Camry was traveling southbound in the outer
lane when it struck the pedestrian who was walking in that lane.
The white sedan was operated by Atiqur Rahman, 37.
DPS said the incident is still under investigation.
Blas said traffic investigators have ruled out speed and alcohol as factors
in the accident and have determined that the pedestrian was intoxicated.
DPS said at the time of the incident, the road and weather conditions
were dry and the highway was poorly lighted.
