First round of Moto-X set for Jan. 14

COOPERATION in the Guam Motorcycle & Atv Corporation (GMAC) was all the rage last week as a few of its members pulled together to spruce p sections of the race track at the Guam Memorial Raceway Park in Yigo.
According to GMAC’s Rob Bucek, “volunteers were on hand this past Sunday to start the work on refurbishing and repairing the broken and neglected start gates.” He added, “James Cepeda and Martin Pangelinan had the backhoe pull the string of gates over to the pits where they began their assessment and plan on having the gates ready before the first round of the season - round one of the 2007 Guam Moto-X Championships begins.”
The first round of the season begins at 1 pm on Sunday January 14 stated Bucek. Racers can expect to take-off in a new starting area that was groomed and prepped, “it’s located at the TT portion of the course between the back table top/big double and the third row rhythm section.”
According to Bucek, “This new starting area will be beneficial as it will be now located on a level area, is plenty wide, has nice red soil, leads to a left hand flattrack turn, and be able to hold up to 14 gates. Besides the added benefits of the relocation of the gates the new location will also keep the gates out of harms way as Smithbridge starts its heavy equipment work on the new location for the MX course.”
He reminded racers and fans that there remains just a weekend left to practice before the start of the ten round 2007 Guam Moto-X Championships. Those that are part of next Sunday’s crowd will be among the first to witness races in the new extended course.
Bucek recommended that everyone come early if they want to avoid the crowds. The track opens at 9 am on Sunday. For real enthusiasts that want to experience the intimate scene of racers and track alone, Saturday is your day. “A crowd is usually never experienced.” As well, this Sunday, GMAC regulars and Cycles Plus will be host a “Learn To Ride” day in the back portion of the pit area so riding in the pits will be prohibited except to either enter or exit the MX course for all those who are not a part of the “Learn To Ride” class.
Finally Bucek invites renewed and new membership to the association. “GMAC memberships will be available this weekend at the track and are mandatory for all those who plan on racing in the Guam Moto-X Championships. GMAC memberships for 2007 still remain at $25, for the year but may go up by round one of the Championships.”
