THE Northern Marianas Amateur
Sports Association elected 10 directors to the NMASA board during the
associations monthly meeting last Thursday.
Elected to the board were tennis Jeff Race, Baseballs Rose
Igitol and Tony Rogolifoi, swimmings Mike Stewart, basketballs
Elias Rangamar, volleyballs Jon Cramer, golfs Jess Wabol,
athletics Robin Sapong, wrestlings Joe Ocampo and current
NMASA president Michael White.
The board is expected to hold another meeting next month to elect its
officers for the 2007 season.
Meanwhile, White is reminding sports associations that will be sending
athletes to the Pacific Games in Apia, Samoa in August of the payment
for the quadrennial meet.
The second installment is due on Feb. 1 with the sports federations required
to pay $640 per athlete.
NMASA broke down into four months the schedule for each sports association
to pay the cost of the Samoa trip.
On Dec. 1 last year, sports federations were asked to pay $320 per athlete.
The third installment is set for April 1 ($960), while the fourth and
last is set for June 1 ($1,280).
The total cost to send one athlete to Samoa is $3,200.
The cost could have been cut had the NMI had a bigger delegation to the
Pacific Games.
But only six sports will be sending athletes to Apia and a charter flight,
which could provide NMI athletes a lower airfare costs, is not possible.
Beach volleyball will be sending four athletes and a coach, while athletics
has three, sailing has two, golf has six, surfing has three and tennis
has two.
